Social innovation has always been a topic of interest for me since it’s the small steps like these that make our society a better place to live in. I have gained an opportunity to make social innovation through one of my classes SE400; that requires me to to launch a social enterprise. I have decided to launch a website and an app that will promote halal restaurants in the Waterloo Region. I am partnering up with MeTech Inc. It is a tech company based in Calgary. We have asked TSoft Inc to make this website and app for us and they have agreed to do so. TSoft is well known firm based in Pakistan that makes apps for others.

The idea of making this platform came up to me as I realized that the amount of Muslims who complain for the lack of restaurants serving halal meat is growing. However, there are so many restaurants in Waterloo serving halal meat that these students aren’t aware of. This project will promote social change by spreading awareness to Muslims about the availability of the kind of food they need. Social change doesn’t necessarily have to start on a significant level but once it does, it can inspire people in various ways. This project will also promote more people to start serving halal meat in their restaurants and that is a significant step towards making social change towards serving Muslim community.
