Hi my name is Amanda and I am in my fourth year of Global Studies and Social Entrepreneurship. For me innovation and social entrepreneurship is about tackling an issue that you are passionate about. It is about looking at the issues in the world and wanting to make a positive difference in the lives of others. There are many world issue that I feel very strongly about and want to make a change. I tend to think of the big picture which can be overwhelming when trying to tackle huge problems. The best advice I have been given is to not focus on the massive issue, but focus on one small part of that issue where you know you can actually make a difference. This advice has allowed me to narrow down my ideas and work with something more tangible. No one person can change the world but, if everyone works on there own small part it will eventually add up and there will be a noticeable difference in the world. Being a Global Studies student has given me a world view on social issues. Through the Social Entrepreneurship Option, I have learned to narrow down my view from global to local. There are so many issues that need to be tackled right at home. It has given me a understanding of my community and how important it is to give back. You need to learn what the issue is from the people experiencing the problem. Never assume you know what is needed. I think the most important thing to remember is that you need to love your problem and everything else will follow.
