Hi, my name is Nicole and I am a 4th year Communications Studies with the option in Social Entrepreneurship. I am writing to explain my problem and how I came about it. This past summer had had the opportunity to participate in an environmental initiative. The non-profit organization I worked with ARCHELON’s objective is to educate people about harmful waste and waste reduction initiatives, along with help protect the endangered Loggerhead Turtle. Their main goal is to add to the endangered Loggerhead Turtle population, as well as help minimize human waste after understanding how humankind has impacted the environment. During this time I experienced firsthand how an individual’s waste can create such a negative impact, especially common everyday objects. I was no longer able to ignore what was right in front of my face. The problem being that humankind lacks awareness of the massive problems that we ourselves create. Therefore, I made it my problem. I could not stand by and ignore simple changes that can be implemented in to our daily lives to become more eco-friendly. From this moment my passion grew and it became my mission to not only live a more environmentally friendly life, but also encourage people around me to do the same. By falling in love with my problem, I have become an advocate of awareness and an activist in order to create a greener planet. To me that is what Social Entrepreneurship is, undertaking a problem that you are passionate for.
