My name is Roxy Suida. I am a fourth year Kinesiology student with the Social Entrepreneurship Option. I want to highlight the key aspects why I decided to take this option. Social entrepreneurship gives me the ability to be creative and think outside the box. I get to work on projects that work with the community to create social change and tackle issues that I am passionate about such as the environment, homelessness, poverty , etc. These skills I acquired from social entrepreneurship can be used in my major. The skills I learned such as, making connections with community members, pitching ideas to faculty and creating business plans for our venture. These skills can relate to my major, Kinesiology, which I believe has the goal to help people reach their optimal health and the Social Entrepreneurship Option also has the goal to help people with social issues. If some of these problems have solutions overall the community has a chance to thrive.

It is exciting that we learn both in class and through experiences by venturing through downtown Kitchener and Waterloo. In the fourth year of this option we get the opportunity to launch our own venture tackling the specific social issue we want to address. The ability to create our own venture and to implement it into the community using our innovation and creativity is inspiring. Also getting to collaborate with other individuals in the class to work towards solving a common issue in society makes it easier to envision a social enterprise becoming successful.

I highly encourage others to take this option regardless of the program they are in to broaden their perspective. Everyone has ideas and this class makes it possible for your ideas to become reality and the main benefit is helping the community.
